Goldmarket Handicap 2015: Guy puts good case for Best Case

The new Aquis Farm operation has further strengthened its team by acquiring classy galloper Best Case.

Once thought of as a potential Cox Plate horse when trained by Anthony Cummings for Peter Horwitz, Best Case ran third in the 2014 Group One South Australian Derby.

He has not reached those heights as an older horse but has been around the mark in stakes races in NSW and Victoria and recently went through the sale ring.

Bryan Guy, the trainer for the new operation backed by investment company Aquis, hopes Best Case will find Queensland racing a little easier.

“If you look at his best form it is from around 1300 to 2100 metres and even out to 2400. It makes him an ideal horse to race in Queensland,” Guy said.

“NSW horses seem to find our standard of racing a little easier and they generally pay their way.”

Best Case will have his first start for his new stable in Saturday’s Listed Goldmarket Hcp (1300m) at the Gold Coast.

“They always run along in the Goldmarket and it suits class horses who can finish quickly. Hopefully, Best Case can do the same,” Guy said.

He will also have Game of Dreams in the Group Three B J McLachlan Stakes (1200m) with the gelding out to qualify for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on January 9.

Game of Dreams is currently 35th on the order of entry after winning at Ipswich two weeks ago.

“He was impressive winning a trial and then was caught very deep at his first start,” Guy said.

“Game Of Dreams needs to win or run second to be a chance of running in the Magic Millions but we are hopeful.”

A former Brisbane premiership winning trainer, Guy believes he can get back into the top 10 metropolitan trainers from his new facility at Canungra.

“It has every thing you need in a horse training operation,” he said.

“Aquis are also allowing me to train for outside owners and it means I have been able to develop a relationship with people such as Hong Kong’s John Moore.

“We will be at the Magic Millions sales this year buying so I am looking forward to the next few years.”
