Healy’s Arabian Rose a strong contender for 2026 The Invitation

Young Queensland trainer James Healy has already witnessed a fairytale run with Arabian Rose, and that narrative could reach an extraordinary new level should she capture the $2 million The Invitation at Randwick.

Healy secured Arabian Rose, a horse who has since won six of her thirteen starts, for a bargain $7000 through Inglis’ digital platform. Her wins include the Listed Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at her home track in July, and she recently returned with a commendable second place in The Nivison (1200m) behind Gerringong, a competitor in this Saturday’s feature race.

This strong performance earned her a coveted start in The Invitation (1400m). A victory would represent the zenith of Healy’s training career, which began after he honed his skills with Ciaron Maher and David Eustace in Melbourne, eventually leading him to obtain his own licence about six years ago.

“If she was to win, it would be a massive thrill, and who knows where it could take her?” Healy stated.

“It has always been a two-run preparation whichever way we went, whether it was the Invitation or down to Melbourne. I’d say she’d go straight home (after Saturday) and have a spell. She has sort of done her job already this ‘prep’ getting a Group Three placing to her name and we can set her for the winter. I’d love to win a Stradbroke with her.”

“We bought her online on Inglis Digital for $7000, so she has been a great buy.”

Arabian Rose has drawn ideally from barrier three, and Healy is of the opinion that she will be improved by her first-up run, where she seemed to find the line lacking.

Both the mare and her trainer have remained in Sydney, and Healy is content with her condition for Saturday’s race.

“She derived a lot of benefit from the run, the 1400 is going to suit, and it looks like she’ll get some soft ground,” Healy said.

“We’re going into the race full of confidence, and I’m confident she can run top three on Saturday.”

While Tommy Berry has been engaged to ride Chris Waller’s topweight Lazzura, Tiffani Brooker will partner Arabian Rose, having previously guided her to victory in the Glasshouse Handicap.

The mare is currently priced at $19 in the early betting, with Lazzura the $3.20 favourite. Gerringong, who finished ahead of Arabian Rose in The Nivison, is a $4 chance and meets Arabian Rose 1kg worse at the weights.

The betting markets for The Invitation are already active, with the top racing betting markets available through leading Australian betting sites.
