Glyn Schofield will consider lodging an appeal against a careless riding ban that will force him to miss the ride on Manawanui in the gelding’s return clash with Wild And Proud in the Group One Randwick Guineas.
Manawanui was first past the post in Saturday’s Group Two Hobartville Stakes but lost the race to Wild And Proud on protest for interference in the final 50 metres of the event.
Schofield was later suspended for nine meetings by Racing NSW stewards for shifting in aboard Manawanui in the final 50 metres, in which eventual fifth placegetter Hot Snitzel was checked and lost his running in between Wild And Proud and third-placed Moment Of Change.
Schofield’s suspension is set to start after next Saturday’s Group One Newmarket Handicap meeting where he’ll ride top sprinter Hay List.
The suspension rules Schofield out of action until Coolmore Classic day on March 24, meaning he would miss the ride on Manawanui in the Group One Randwick Guineas (1600m) on March 17.
“I’ve got to consider an appeal,” Schofield said.
“Obviously it’s disappointing. I lost a race in the stewards’ room and now I’m going to lose the mount on one of the two horses I really enjoy riding.”
Schofield has until Monday to lodge an appeal.
“I don’t believe that enough contribution was appointed to Moment Of Change who bumped Hot Snitzel on two occasions,” Schofield said.
Stewards conceded there was slight contact between Moment Of Change and Hot Snitzel but said it was only minor.
