Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm Tips, Race Previews and Selections – 3/6/2023

A capacity field has been taken for Saturday’s Group 1 Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm!

Fireburn announced her Queensland Oaks credentials with an eye-catching win in The Roses a fortnight ago, but she will certainly need to be at her best to win after drawing gate 16.

Have I put her on top? Scroll down to my 2023 Queensland Oaks Tips to find out!

Queensland Oaks – Winner

I certainly have.

Take nothing away from the quality of some of her rivals, but Fireburn really is an outstanding filly, and I am confident that she will record a third career Group 1 win this week.

Having gone within a neck of pulling off the two-year-old Triple Crown last year, Fireburn didn’t reach the same peaks during her spring preparation, but she has continued to improve with racing this year.

I’m not as concerned with the barrier as perhaps some others are – she’ll get back off the pace regardless, and with even luck again, I think she’ll be extremely difficult to hold out.

Suggested Bet: No. 1 Fireburn

Queensland Oaks – 2nd

The other filly that made really nice ground late in The Roses was Renaissance Woman, and she too can run a big race in the Queensland Oaks.

The Reliable Man filly stamped herself as one to follow during her spring prep last year, winning the Group 3 Ethereal Stakes most notably before finishing midfield in the Spring Champion Stakes.

She has clearly gone to another level this time, however, winning the Listed Bracelet on the Sunshine Coast prior to her eye-catching run a fortnight ago.

Josh Parr stays in the saddle, she’s drawn well and if she holds her form, I really can’t find a reason why she won’t be in the finish.

Suggested Bet: No. 3 Renaissance Woman

Queensland Oaks – 3rd

She’s yet to strike in four starts back from a break, but there’s no doubt that Madame Odette has stripped fitter for each, and I’m keen to see her out to the 2200m in the Queensland Oaks.

The Tony Gollan-trained filly finished second behind an impressive Street Gossip in the Princess Stakes back in April, and he really did let down nicely when finally offered a clear run in The Roses last time out.

She steps out this week in peak order and she’s drawn a peach under regular hoop Ryan Maloney.

Suggested Bet: No. 9 Madame Odette

Queensland Oaks – 4th

Another leading contender that has drawn horrifically into the Queensland Oaks field is Kiwi raider Cheval D’or.

Cheval D’or has been a strong and consistent performer in black type company over the ditch this year, and she was last seen recording a dominant win in the Group 3 Trelawney Stud Stakes at Pukekohe in April.

If Michael McNab can find a good position in transit early from barrier 20, she’s a live chance, but she really does need a lot to go right from out there!

Suggested Bet: No. 14 Cheval D’or
