All too easy for Caviar’s half-brother

Black Caviar’s half-brother All Too Hard has impressed in a Flemington jumpout but the Hawkes stable remains unsure when he will make his race debut.

The $1 million son of Casino Prince made his first public appearance on Friday and was unextended in the 800-metre hitout.

He was too good for the Peter Snowden-trained Forget and four others running 47.05 seconds, his last 400 metres in 22s.

“He handled himself well,” Wayne Hawkes, who trains the Nathan Tinkler-owned two-year-old with brother Michael and his father John, said.

“He wasn’t out to break any records but we are happy with him.

“We wanted to give him a trial and take stock of where he is at.”

Hawkes said the jumpout was part of the build-up to his first start.

“He jumped and went to the front and just did what he had to,” Hawkes said.

“Like a lot of the Casino Prince horses he’s lovely and relaxed but we won’t be rushing him.

“He might have his first start in Sydney, I don’t know yet. We are keeping the options open.”

All Too Hard featured in one of three jumpouts down the Flemington straight with African Pulse and Foxwedge the other winners.

African Pulse, a last-start Caulfield winner, is loaded with potential and could have gone much quicker than 46.17s, with his last 400m in 21.23s which was the fastest of the jumpouts.

He edged ahead of stakes-winning sprinter Facile Tigre to score while Metallurgical was third ahead of We’re Gonna Rock and Sister Madly.

Trainer John O’Shea said Foxwedge had furnished since the spring and was happy with the way he won his jumpout in soft fashion in 46.46s, his last 400 metres in 21.42s.

African Pulse and Foxwedge will clash in next week’s Group One Lightning Stakes (1000m) at Flemington.

Craig Williams rode Foxwedge in Friday’s jumpout and O’Shea is keen for him to ride the horse with a light weight in the Group One Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 10.

Heavyweight rider Nash Rawiller will ride Foxwedge in the Lightning.

Meanwhile, four-time Group One-winning sprinter Sepoy got through a jumpout on the inside grass at Flemington ahead of his autumn launch in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 25.
