Just days after returning from a fractured foot, apprentice Kayla Nisbet has been sidelined again with a broken wrist.
The 19-year-old suffered the injury during trackwork at trainer David Hayes’ Lindsay Park property in Euroa on Monday and is likely to be sidelined for a couple of months.
“It is in a cast at the moment and she’s going to have a wire put in it tomorrow in an operation,” Nisbet’s manager Ryan Roberts said.
“The cast has got to be on for six weeks and then obviously they reassess once the cast comes off.”
Nisbet spent a month out due to the fractured foot and made a winning return at Moonee Valley on Friday night.
She missed a golden opportunity on short-priced favourite Lord Of The Sky at Caulfield on Saturday when she was caught in traffic on her way to the course.
Nisbet arrived at Caulfield as Lord Of The Sky was going onto the track and had to watch from the sidelines as Jake Duffy guided the Robbie Laing-trained sprinter to victory.
“That’s hopefully the three bad luck stories out of the way. They say things happen in threes so hopefully that’s it done now,” Roberts said.
Roberts said Nisbet was trotting up on a two-year-old getting ready to work and the young horse ducked away from something causing the saddle to slip.
“She fell off and landed on her wrist,” Roberts said.
Meanwhile, Jamie Mott stood himself down from rides at Terang on Monday due to stiffness in his neck after a fall at Caulfield on Saturday.
Mott rode at Geelong on Sunday but woke with neck stiffness on Monday and made an appointment with a physiotherapist.
He is expected to ride on Thursday at Kyneton.
