Deane targets 2015 PGA

Club pro Stuart Deane was unable to make the cut but the Queenslander is hoping to leverage his experience at Valhalla into a return to the PGA Championship in 2015.

Deane shot an even par round of 71 on Friday to finish at four-over, three off the cut but third of the 20 club professionals in the field.

With an exemption into the club professional National Championship next year he is already thinking about Whistling Straits.

“Absolutely, the fire is in the belly to get back to the PGA next year at Whistling Straits,” Deane said.

“I think that will be a pretty cool venue to go to.

“It would be a cool thing to do, back-to-back years, or as many as you can do.

“We have guys that seem to get in every year or every other year and I think it can probably get pretty addicting.”

While disappointed not to make the weekend Deane was finding the positives, especially in his second round play.

“I finally cracked a birdie on the seventh today. It was a lot of holes without a birdie and finally got on the board there and got everybody excited, which was awesome,” he said.

“Shooting even par in a major, I think that is an accomplishment especially this kind of level of golf where the penalties are tough when you make bad swings.”

The 42-year-old was hoping for a decent reception back in Arlington Texas where he plies his trade as the teaching pro.

“I think all in all they will probably be pretty proud,” he said.

“To come out and shoot four-over for two days was not exactly what I was hoping for, but at the same time you’re able to come and prove to the students that you can do it and pass the experience along.”
