Western Australia took the early honours on the opening day on the Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria at the WACA Ground in Perth on Thursday.
The home team have reduced the Bushrangers to 3-75 at lunch after Adam Voges, leading the Warriors in the absence of Marcus North (injured finger), won the toss and chose to bowl first on a grassy wicket.
Former Warrior Chris Rogers was the first to fall as paceman Michael Hogan (2-29) made two early breakthroughs, the left-hander caught behind for 18.
He was quickly followed back to the pavilion by Aaron Finch, who was bowled by Hogan for a duck.
Victorian captain Cameron White’s run of poor Shield form continued when he made an unconvincing 17 before being bowled by Nathan Rimmington (1-20) to leave Victoria struggling at 3-56.
At lunch, opener Rob Quiney is unbeaten on 22 and Peter Handscomb is not out 14.
The ladder-leading Western Australians (32 points) are chasing the right to host the Shield final with one match remaining after the current round, with Queensland (30) and Tasmania (28) close on their tails.
Victoria (24 points) need an outright victory in Perth to have any chance of qualifying for the decider.
