Vics lead WA by 207 runs in Shield

Veteran opener Chris Rogers punished his former state with a polished century as Victoria built their lead over Western Australia on the third day of the crucial Sheffield Shield clash at the WACA Ground in Perth.

After trailing by 24 on the first innings, and needing to win outright to have any hope of reaching the Shield final, the Victorians were 2-231 at tea on Saturday, an overall lead of 207 runs.

Rogers was on 113 and Victorian captain Cameron White was not out four – the pair set to chase quick runs in the final session of the day.

The Bushrangers were aiming to set WA, which can all but secure a home final with win, a challenging run chase on the last day.

Rogers, 34, notched his fourth first-class century against his old state, and his 52nd overall, to revive Victorian hopes after they conceded first-innings points to the Warriors.

Although he slashed several balls through slips, Rogers didn’t give a chance on his way to triple figures, reaching his ton in 220 minutes, having faced 181 balls and hitting 18 boundaries.

Rogers and Rob Quiney (66) put on 142 for the first wicket to provide a perfect launching pad for the innings.
