Vics 1-122 against SA at lunch, day one

Victorian batsmen Rob Quiney and Peter Handscomb struck half-centuries against South Australia on Thursday’s opening day of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

After winning the toss and batting, the Bushrangers were 1-122 at lunch.

Quiney hooked two balls for six and was not out 56 at the break, with Handscomb unbeaten on 59.

Handscomb was dropped twice after coming to the crease when Redbacks paceman Joe Mennie dismissed Chris Rogers for a duck with the fifth ball of the match.

Rogers edged to wicketkeeper Adam Crosthwaite, who completed the catch moving to his left.

But the SA gloveman dropped Handscomb when the right-hander was on 11, unable to grasp a low, diving one-hander from Mennie’s bowling.

Handscomb was given another reprieve on 15 when third slip James Smith dropped a regulation chance from the bowling of Peter George.
