A century from Ricky Ponting helped Tasmania build their lead over South Australia to 190 runs at lunch on Friday’s third day of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.
The Tigers were 5-316 at the break, in reply to SA’s first innings of 126.
Ponting made 130 before falling to Test tweaker Nathan Lyon (2-70), out when attempting to turn an offspinner to the leg-side but missing to be trapped lbw.
The former Australian captain struck 13 fours and a six in his 173-ball knock.
Ponting’s dismissal came two runs after James Faulkner (17) was lbw to paceman Joe Mennie (2-71) – they were the only wickets to fall in Friday’s first session.
The Tigers have banked first innings points to join Queensland on 30 points on the Shield table, just two behind leaders Western Australia.
