Maybe he was auditioning for a summer TV commentary gig.
Or perhaps he was still shaking off the side effects of Tuesday’s hamstring surgery.
But injured Australian skipper Michael Clarke was surprisingly chatty on social media on Wednesday.
As in, you could not shut him up.
Even Shane Warne was impressed.
Steve Smith may have taken over the reins for the second Test against India starting in Brisbane on Wednesday.
However, Clarke still did his best to keep a high profile, weighing in on everything from a dodgy caught behind decision to tactics on Twitter.
Media were told a Clarke fitness update would be provided after the first day’s play.
But not much more needed to be asked about Clarke – on any topic – by stumps thanks to the recovering skipper’s itchy Twitter finger.
Clarke got the ball rolling by posting on Wednesday morning: “Thanks for all the well wishes. Surgery went really well.
“The Aust Physio (Alex Kountouris) will update the media this afternoon.
“A few days of rest and recover and watch the boys play well from my bed.”
But it seems he couldn’t keep still for long.
In what seemed unprecedented access to the skipper’s thoughts, Clarke gave his two cents as the second Test events unfolded.
“Hamstring?” Clarke speculated as Mitch Marsh limped off before medical staff confirmed the all-rounder’s injury.
“Not a great decision that one,” Clarke posted after Cheteshwar Pujara was controversially given caught behind off Josh Hazlewood for 18 despite replays showing the ball hit his helmet.
“Big wicket,” when Virat Kohli was caught behind for 19 off Hazlewood.
On and on he went.
Even when things weren’t happening Clarke shared his thoughts.
“I like seeing (spinner Nathan) Lyon over the wicket. Enough spin but more importantly very good bounce,” he tweeted.
In the middle of it all Clarke even found time to change his Twitter profile pic.
It was enough to earn a nod from someone who knows his way around a mobile phone, Warne.
“Raise the bat from that hospital bed buddy, that’s your 50th tweet of the day already Bored much ??? Hahaha…..” Warne tweeted.
Clarke replied: “hahaha.. I love making big 100s so stay tuned.”
