Australia captain George Bailey is keen to turn the tables on Pakistan in the World Twenty20 after his side suffered a 2-1 series loss in Dubai earlier this month.
Bailey’s men have been undefeated in two group matches and two Super Eights games so far in the World T20 and face Pakistan on Tuesday night in Colombo (2000 AEST) in their final Super Eights clash in a bid to qualify for the semi-finals to be staged on Thursday and Friday.
Australia’s healthy net run-rate is likely to push Bailey’s side into the semi-finals even if they lose to Pakistan.
“It would be nice, or in a final might be a better time (to settle the score),” Bailey said.
“The first game and the third game were really one-sided (won by Pakistan and Australia respectively) and the second game was decided by a super over.
“It was a really good series.
“I’m keen to continue playing good cricket. I think momentum and confidence are really big factors.
“It would be nice to play well against Pakistan just to keep that going.”
Australia’s eight-wicket win over No.1-ranked South Africa on Sunday night was dominated by allrounder Shane Watson (70 off 47 deliveries and 2-29).
Recalled spinner Xavier Doherty opened the bowling for Australia in his first game for the tournament and claimed 3-20 in an excellent performance.
However spin will also be on the minds of Australia’s batsmen after they struggled against Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal in the Dubai series, with Ajmal snaring six wickets at an average of 8.66.
“I don’t know if you can de-code him,” Bailey said.
“We’ve got some thoughts and we’ve got some ideas. But if he comes out and bowls unbelievably then it’s going to be a real challenge.”
