Australia’s women’s cricket side claimed the Rose Bowl on Sunday with a crushing nine-wicket victory over New Zealand at Blacktown International Sportspark.

With the first two one-day matches washed out, it all came down to the third and final match to decide who would take home the coveted trophy.

Australia never looked in doubt, chasing down the White Ferns’ feeble total of 126 in the 17th over in emphatic style following an unbeaten 104-run partnership between vice-captain Alex Blackwell (50 not out off 40 balls) and Leah Poulton (61 not out off 53).

The victory was set up by the medium pace of Julie Hunter and Ellyse Perry, who combined for six wickets to decimate New Zealand’s batting line up.

Hunter and Perry both took three wickets as the visitors crumbled to be all out in the 40th over.

Player-of-the-series Hunter (3-31) did most of the damage, tearing through the New Zealand top order, removing their top three batters as the visiting side slumped to be 4-39 in the 13th over.

Perry chipped in to remove Sara McGlashan lbw for nine before some brief resistance from middle order batters Liz Perry (27) and Katie Perkins (33) added 31 runs.

Once that partnership was broken, Perkins did her best to push the score along with the tailenders, but Perry returned to claim two more wickets and finish with figures of 3-16 off 8.1 overs.

Australia were also victorious in the Twenty20 series earlier this month, taking an unassailable 3-0 lead with the final two matches to be played in the first week of February.
