Chisora won’t be intimidated by Klitschko

Britain’s Dereck Chisora refuses to be intimidated by heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko ahead of this weekend’s world title fight and has taken steps to make sure he is not beaten before he steps into the ring.

Chisora will challenge for the World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title at the Olympiahalle in Munich on Saturday despite losing two of his last three bouts.

The 28-year-old was controversially beaten by local hero Robert Helenius for the European belt in Finland in December, but it was a vastly improved display to the unanimous decision he lost to Tyson Fury for the British title in July.

But the burly Brit says he will not fall into the same trap as Klitschko’s previous opponents, who Chisora claims have been beaten before they even step into the ring.

An oversized poster of Klitschko hangs in Chisora’s London gym and he says it has helped him get used to the Ukrainian’s ice-cold stare and with each training session his desire to dethrone the champion has grown stronger.

“Before the bell, he’s nice to you, but then he wants to destroy you,” said Chisora of Klitschko’s psychological approach.

“Most of the guys had already lost to him before they step in the ring, because they were trembling with fear.

“But I have pride and passion. I am the worst type of pest for him.”

Chisora has already said he will knock out the 40-year-old champion in the eighth round.

“I just need one right punch to knock Klitschko out,” he said.

Chisora is not the first opponent to talk big before fight night against Vitali Klitschko, who has said he will save his response for the ring.

The facts speak for themselves: Klitschko has won 43 of his 45 professional fights and has enjoyed 40 knock-outs.

With a knock-out ratio of 89 per cent, he is one of boxing’s all-time KO specialists.

Britain’s Lennox Lewis, the last boxer to beat Klitschko after their 2003 fight says his compatriot could pull off an upset.

“Chisora has a chance. He is a real heavyweight,” said the former world champion.

“All he needs is a hit on the chin.”

The Zimbabwe-born Chisora is giving away 15cm in height and his record of 15 wins, nine knock-outs and two defeats hardly compares on paper to the champion.

“I will attack him from the start and hurt him,” said Chisora.

“Klitschko has never fought a man like me.”
