Western Bulldogs vs Gold Coast Suns Preview

A road trip to Ballarat could do the Dogs wonders this week.

Luke Beveridge is under further pressure on the back of a sorry 45-point loss to the Demons, a game that featured numerous turnovers and a real struggle around the ruck.

The Suns, meanwhile, have started 2-0 under Damien Hardwick – although both wins against Richmond and Adelaide resulted in a few nervous moments for fans.

After establishing comfortable leads in both, Gold Coast has struggled to shut the door and go on with the job, prevailing by only a goal last week at home to the Crows.

How the Suns play away from home is the big question, but there’s no doubting how well their midfield has played with Hardwick’s side currently averaging 54 tackles a game.

On paper, these two sides are quite evenly matched, as we saw last year in Darwin when the Suns won by only seven points.

The one key area that could decide this game though, is clearances.

Melbourne was far more efficient in this department last week, outscoring the Dogs 47-21 from stoppages.

The Suns have been one of the best teams around the clearances over the last 18 months, and if they can manage to put together four solid quarters for a change, they should be winning this one.
