Gold Coast have finally ended their AFL losing run, defeating St Kilda by 40 points.

In a good news day for the Suns with midfielder Jaeger O’Meara making a successful return from his long injury layoff in the reserves, the hosts led at every change on Saturday to claim a 15.18 (108) to 8.20 (68) victory.

The win ends a 10-match losing streak for Rodney Eade’s men.

Teenager Peter Wright dominated the Saints’ defence, the Suns’ tall snaring 10 marks and kicking three goals in a fine performance by the 19-year-old.

His fellow tall Tom Lynch booted one goal but was also a ball magnet, grabbing a club-record 14 marks and posting 20 disposals.

Midfielders Dion Prestia, Aaron Hall and Brandon Matera all kicked two goals each for the hosts.

Defender Steven May was a tower of strength at the back for the Suns, picking up 20 disposals and 10 marks, while Nick Malceski had arguably his best performance since joining Gold Coast.

Defeat brings the Saints back to earth, less than a week after their upset win over high-flying Geelong.

The visitors conceded the first five goals of the match and, after a three-goal rally before quarter-time, only managed 5.19 for the remainder of the game.

Tim Membrey and Jack Newnes were the only multiple goalkickers for St Kilda with two goals each while skipper Nick Riewoldt ended the match goalless and with five behinds.

They also lost youngster Paddy McCartin to concussion in the opening quarter – his third head knock already in 2016.

The Suns had an injury worry of their own with winger Matt Rosa limping off in the first quarter with a hamstring problem.
