Preview:
Who would’ve thought that Port would be undefeated three rounds into the season?
They met the poorly performed Melbourne in the opening round and recorded back-to-back wins after meeting GWS in round two but it was last week’s win over big brother, the Crows that grabbed people’s attention. Will they be able to live up to expectations this week?
Gold Coast couldn’t have started the season in better style when they beat St. Kilda here at home in round one before running into the Swans in the second week before pushing the Lions all the way, here at home again, when losing by 2 points last week.
Showing some tenacity in their play the Suns and their past performances at home have been good enough to suggest that, with the start of 13.5, they should give a good account of themselves.

Ken Hinkley making the difference?
Just like his old mate – and new rival – Guy McKenna, Port Adelaide mentor Ken Hinkley has racked up three wins in his first AFL season as a head coach.
And that’s where the similarities end between the pair ahead of Port’s clash with McKenna’s Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.
“It took me 12 months to get three wins,” McKenna laughed, citing Gold Coast’s horror 3-19 debut year in 2011.
In all, McKenna has racked up just seven wins in 47 games at the Suns helm.
In contrast, Hinkley has not tasted defeat in 2013 after Port stormed to a 3-0 season start.
There was ample ammunition for the cheeky Hinkley who has revelled at Port this year after walking away from a three-year stint as McKenna’s Suns assistant.
But Hinkley didn’t bite when he lined up alongside McKenna on the tourist strip on Friday.
“We know it (coaching) is a bit tougher than that but we’ll take our start,” Hinkley smiled.
“(But) there comes a time when you think you might not get the opportunity (as head coach).
“I had a great fallback position. I got to work up here on the Gold Coat and work with a great young club, developing a team from ground up.
“I was never too worried about it, but I did think at some point it may have passed by.”
McKenna wasn’t surprised by the success of Hinkley, who was his Suns forwards coach.
“Not at all. The way we’ve played offensively has been stamped with Kenny,” he said.
“You see a lot of that in Port Adelaide.
“Stripping that back and being the main person, he’s been able to change their style of football and it’s resulted in three good wins.”
Hinkley might not have had to study too many Suns match videos before this weekend thanks to his long Gold Coast stint.
But the Port mentor admitted he had watched their progress this season carefully – perhaps too carefully.
“Other weeks when we’re not playing the Suns, I’m actually cheering for them loudly to keep improving and make their climb up the ladder,” he said.
“I think their results clearly show they’re improving.
“I know at the back end of last year when I was here, the Suns were six goals better at Metricon – we’re certainly aware of how good they are up here.”
Hinkley arrived at Port in October as former Power coach Matt Primus replaced him as McKenna’s Suns assistant – not that he expected either to benefit from their inside knowledge.
“You think you know a lot about them … (but) what I knew six months ago might be a fair bit different now,” he said.
Meanwhile, Suns captain Gary Ablett (hand) and ruckman Charlie Dixon (Achilles) are certain starters after emerging from Friday training unscathed.
