West Coast coach John Worsfold is confident of earning a new two-year deal despite the club’s horrible AFL form over the past fortnight.
The Eagles have been beaten by a combined 128 points by Geelong and Collingwood over the past two weeks, with the heavy losses killing off any realistic chance of snaring a finals berth.
After last Friday’s loss to Collingwood, Worsfold feared West Coast’s board might reconsider their decision to offer him a new deal in the coming weeks.
But the coach seemed far more assured when asked about his contract status on Wednesday, believing a new deal would come unless he’s “read the play wrong”.
Worsfold said he had given no thought to the prospect of Saturday night’s clash with Adelaide as being the last of his tenure.
Instead, the 2006 premiership coach was talking about his plans for the club next year, and how he intends to get the club back into the upper echelons of the table.
Worsfold will make his presentation to the club’s board in the coming weeks.
