Docker Bradley handed new AFL deal

Fremantle ruck-forward Kepler Bradley has been handed a one-year contract extension, but the 27-year-old faces a battle to get much AFL game time.

Bradley missed most of the club’s 2013 campaign after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in round five.

The former Bomber resumed running last month and is expected to do some sprint sessions this week before being eased into the club’s pre-season program.

Bradley has spent most of his career alternating between forward and ruck duties.

Fremantle boast a glut of quality ruckmen, with Aaron Sandilands, Zac Clarke and Jon Griffin all sitting above Bradley in the pecking order.

Griffin is also on the comeback from knee surgery.

Bradley’s best bet would be to nail down a spot in the forward line next year.

But if new recruit Scott Gumbleton and skipper Matthew Pavlich stay fit, Bradley will find it hard to squeeze into the side.

Fremantle made it all the way to the grand final last season, and hope the arrival of former Demon Colin Sylvia and Gumbleton will boost their premiership chances in 2014.

Bradley played 49 games for the Bombers before switching to Fremantle at the end of 2007.

The 199cm utility has added a further 68 games to his tally, but has featured just 17 times in the past two years.
