Preview:

COLLINGWOOD star Dane Swan is set to return for the Magpies’ NAB Challenge clash against Richmond at Wangaratta on Saturday.
However, star Tigers forward Jack Riewoldt will miss again with quad tightness as he prepares for the club’s round one clash against Gold Coast on March 15.
As reported on AFL.com.au. the Magpies will welcome back talented goalsneak Alex Fasolo, who has not played since round five last season because of a serious foot injury.
Tyson Goldsack, Nathan Brown and Ben Reid have also been named in the Magpies’ squad of 29, which will trimmed to 26 on Saturday.
Richmond has named an otherwise strong squad, including young midfielder Reece Conca, who has spent much of the pre-season in rehabilitation following hamstring surgery. Chris Knights, who missed the majority of 2013 with a serious knee injury, could also play his first game since round seven, 2013.
Mature-age recruit Nathan Gordon has also been selected to play his first game for the club.
Dylan Grimes (hamstring), Daniel Jackson (groin), Ivan Maric (ankle) and Chris Newman (knee) are all recovering from injury ahead of the club’s round one clash against the Suns.
Notable omissions for the Magpies were Nick Maxwell, Jarryd Blair and Dayne Beams.

News:

Collingwood have named seven inclusions headed by Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan for Saturday’s AFL pre-season game against Richmond in Wangaratta.

Five-time All-Australian Swan was rested from Collingwood’s opening clash against Geelong at Simonds Stadium on February 12.

Half-forward Alex Fasolo, who suffered a foot injury in 2013 and played only three games for the season, has also been included.

Fasolo’s most recent game for the Magpies was last year’s Anzac Day clash with Essendon.

Key defender Nathan Brown and tall utilities Ben Reid and Tyson Goldsack are also part of the 29-man squad, alongside Caolan Mooney and 34-year-old ruckman Ben Hudson.

Collingwood’s 2012 club champion Dayne Beams and ex-skipper Nick Maxwell will be rested, while Nathan Freeman (hamstring) and Tim Broomhead (hand) are likely to miss a month of football.

Three players will be cut from Collingwood’s squad before their clash with the Tigers, who lost their opening game to Melbourne last week.

Richmond’s four-time leading goalkicker Jack Riewoldt, who slapped a media ban on himself last week after being left out of the club’s leadership group, has not been named in the 29-man squad.

Popular forward Jake King comes into the Richmond squad as do Reece Conca, Ricky Petterd, Chris Knights, Matt Arnot, Matt McDonough and rookie Matt Thomas.

King said he’d struggled to build up a fitness base pre-Christmas because of shoulder and toe surgeries.

“The big toe has been a big setback,” King told the club’s website.

“That’s been causing me a bit of dramas but we’re on top of that now.

“I’m going to try to get in the middle a little bit this year.”

King said before he returned to normal duties he tried a variety of cross-training methods, with mixed success.

“They tried to get me in the pool but we all know I can’t swim so I stayed out of there,” King said.

“I had to do a fair bit of boxing.”
