Bulldogs warned of Crows’ aerial tactics

Western Bulldogs defenders have been warned of a looming Adelaide aerial assault in Saturday night’s AFL clash at AAMI Stadium.

The Bulldogs struggled to contain West Coast’s tall attackers in their season-opening loss, a weakness noted by the Crows.

Adelaide defender Andy Otten says exploiting the marking power of his team-mates would be a priority against the Dogs.

“We’re going to try and move the ball as quick as we can to give our forwards the best opportunity to get one-on-one match ups,” Otten told reporters on Friday.

“And we’d back our forwards one-on-one against anyone.”

Adelaide’s tall spearheads Kurt Tippett and Taylor Walker kicked nine goals between them against Gold Coast last week in the Crows’ 69-point triumph.

But Otten predicted the Bulldogs would provide a sterner test for the Crows, who have named an unchanged side with utility Ricky Henderson overcoming concussion from last week.

“The pressure will step up a bit,” Otten said.

“I think we can expect that from the Bulldogs, they were very good for three quarters last week against West Coast.

“We’re expecting a very tight, tough contest.

“There is going to be more pressure.

“I don’t think we can afford to be cute this weekend, the Bulldogs played with one man loose last week so we have got to be mindful of that and just give our forwards the best chance one-on-one.”

Otten was also wary of the running power of the Bulldogs, who regained star midfielder Ryan Griffen and recalled forward Nathan Djerrkura.

Christian Howard will miss the Adelaide match, sidelined by a knee injury, while Mitchell Wallis was dropped.
