GWS Giants vs Hawthorn Hawks Preview

The Hawks sit at the very bottom of the ladder after four rounds, but there was plenty to like about their first-half performance against Geelong on Easter Monday.

Sam Mitchell’s side took it to the reigning premier, delivering a couple of early blows and playing some solid, hard footy – which is all you can ask for from a young team on the big stage.

Unfortunately, the Hawks lacked the polish in front of goal at times, while they also need to address their glaring lack of effort after being severely outscored again in the third quarter.

GWS, on the other hand, follows a similar script. The Giants have been playing some inspired footy, just lacking the legs (and scoring) to finish over the top of West Coast, the Blues, and Bombers in recent weeks.

Really, this game should come down to which team can make the most of its opportunities and apply pressure.

Neither team has been great in the tackling department this year, and both are giving up inside 50s at an alarming rate.

After a massive first half against the reigning premier and the Giants showing they can play some good footy for patches, I think this could be a back and forth contest from quarter to quarter.
