Geelong Cats vs West Coast Eagles Preview
Is one good half of footy enough to declare the Cats are back?
If you’re a Geelong supporter, the first half against Hawthorn on Easter Monday had to be further cause for concern. The Cats were simply outworked for most of it, struggling mightily in the contested possession count, committing sloppy turnovers, and failing to respond to pressure.
Whatever Chris Scott said at half-time worked wonders though, because it was truly a tale of two halves.
The floodgates opened not long after the start of the third quarter, the Cats booting 10 unanswered goals to establish a firm stranglehold on the game.
Looking ahead, Geelong draws another favourable matchup against an out-of-sorts West Coast team struggling through injury.
The undermanned Eagles were mauled by Melbourne at home last week, and you can’t blame supporters for feeling a little apprehensive about this game after suffering an 85-point loss to Geelong last year.
Once the switch was flicked at half-time the Cats seemed to resemble the same dangerous side that won the flag last year.
Their ball movement was crisp, and they played with some urgency – not to mention the brilliance of the game’s best player right now, Jeremy Cameron.
If all of that continues into Round 5, the Eagles face another stiff challenge.
