The best has been saved for last this week with a potential finals preview in store.

Collingwood was handed its first loss of the year against the Lions last week, a game they’d probably like to have back.

Like last year, at times it felt like the Pies would get on top and take control, but silly turnovers and some ill-discipline went a long way to a surprising 33-point loss.

The Saints, meanwhile, remain undefeated under Ross Lyon, knocking off the Suns in blowout fashion last week on the back of a massive five-goal haul from Jack Higgins.

Clearly, the players are buying into what Lyon is selling, and it shows in St Kilda’s defensive statistics – no team has conceded fewer goals than the Saints through the first four rounds of footy.

For all the hype, the Pies have always looked vulnerable on the back of turnover, not to mention the ongoing battle Craig McRae has to find replacement ruckmen after his side was dominated in the hit-outs last week.

In terms of recent history, the Pies have won four of their last five over the Saints dating back to 2018, including a comfortable three-goal win last year.

Better yet, Collingwood has won five straight at the Adelaide Oval, not to mention their 4-2 record at the line on the back of a previous loss.

In some ways, I actually think last week’s loss to the Lions will have done the Pies a world of good. It takes some of the pressure off remaining undefeated, and although the Saints have been elite defensively, I do think the Pies are more battle-tested when you look at who these two sides have played so far.
