Port Adelaide vice-captain Ollie Wines is under investigation for a potential breach of the AFL’s coronavirus protocols.

Wines gave an interview to a television network on Wednesday night from inside his house – AFL rules dictate interviews must be held at a player’s club or remotely via video links.

Wines is understood to have been told not to attend Port’s training on Thursday morning, ahead of the Power’s game against Adelaide on Saturday night.

Wines, who missed Port’s opening-round win due to injury before the competition suspension, was due to make his return to action against the Crows.

Port’s general manager of football Chris Davies will hold a media conference on Thursday morning, with the club awaiting direction from the AFL on the matter.

Wines gave an interview to the Seven Network on Wednesday night as part of a side contract with the television station.

The AFL has previously warned of sanctions including bans from playing for any breaches of the league’s coronavirus protocols.

Last month, AFL chief Gillon McLachlan said the league had formed a grading system of intentional, reckless or careless for any breaches of coronavirus protocols.

Comment was being sought from the AFL.
