South African Charl Schwartzel has vowed to return to the Perth International next year to redeem himself after crashing out of the inaugural $2 million golf tournament on Friday.
The 2011 US Masters winner shot a disastrous four-over 76 in his second round to miss the cut by one stroke, with a stray two-metre putt on the 18th sealing his fate.
Schwartzel, the world No.31, entered the Perth tournament as one of the favourites and was shattered to not even make the weekend.
But after experiencing what Perth has to offer both on and off the golf course, Schwartzel wants to make amends for his flop next year.
“I’m disappointed the way I’ve played, but I’ve had a great time,” Schwartzel said.
“It’s a great city, and I would like to come back to redeem myself.
“I figured if I could have just made the cut, you can still win the tournament.
“But it was hard in the afternoon. The greens were getting bumpy.
“The 18th hole just shows you – (it) was pretty much a straight-forward putt and it bounced out of line.”
Argentinian Emiliano Grillo held the halfway lead at 11 under, with world No.24 American Bo van Pelt and West Australian Jason Scrivener the next best placed at seven under.
Kiwi Michael Hendry, Australian Max McCardle, world No.10 American Jason Dufner and Spain’s Alejandro Canizares are also still well in the hunt at six under heading into round three.
