Hawks coach admits to being boring

Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson knows he’s being boring.

At the halfway point of the AFL season, Clarkson says he doesn’t care about the ladder.

Or, for that matter, what other clubs are doing.

After the Hawks kept their grip on sixth spot with a 46-point trouncing of Port Adelaide on Sunday, Clarkson said all he worried about was next week.

“All you can do in this game is work hard week to week, and as boring as that is, we just focus on Brisbane next week,” Clarkson said.

“We just keep on trying to notch up the wins, don’t worry about what every other club is doing or what is happening with the ladder.

“We try and get as many wins as we can and add them up at the end of the year and hopefully it gives us enough wins to qualify (for the finals).

“And then it’s a different season altogether once you get to September.”

While most pundits believe Clarkson’s flag fancies are building ominously, with five wins from their past six matches, the coach is hearing none of it.

“Pretty much our focus now coming out of this game is purely and simply – as boring as it is – Brisbane Lions next week at the MCG,” he said.
