Western Force chief executive Vern Reid is confident Will Genia’s backflip to stay at Queensland Reds won’t affect contract negotiations with star Wallabies flanker David Pocock.
Genia agreed to terms with the Force last week, but performed a shock about-face on Monday when he re-signed with the Reds for a further three seasons.
Pocock was rumoured to have been on the verge of re-signing with the Force once Genia had agreed to come to the Perth-based Super Rugby franchise.
But even with Genia staying put in Queensland, the Force remain confident they can convince Pocock to stay.
“David obviously did a lot of work in recruiting Will,” Reid said on Monday afternoon.
“He wants to put this speculation on his future aside and wants to make sure the team performs at its heights.
“That’s the position from David and, obviously, we’ll keep working with him and see if we can secure his future as soon as possible.”
