Raines receives one-match AFL ban

Geelong captain Joel Selwood has escaped penalty and Brisbane opponent Andrew Raines can accept a one-match AFL ban after their Saturday night clash.

Selwood and Raines hit each other off the ball during the Cats’ win on Saturday night at the ‘Gabba.

The match review panel ruled Selwood’s contact did not have enough force to constitute a strike.

Raines received a three-match penalty for striking Selwood, but it can be reduced to one match because the Lions utility has a five-year good record.

Raines was also cleared for a separate incident where he made high contact with Selwood.

West Coast fullback Will Schofield was offered a two-match ban for an off-the-ball strike on Richmond spearhead Jack Riewoldt.

Riewoldt vomited on the ground after the incident before going off to receive treatment.

St Kilda midfielder Leigh Montagna also received a two-match ban for striking Melbourne opponent James Magner.

Adelaide’s Taylor Walker can accept a reprimand for sliding into Port Adelaide opponent Jacob Surjan.

Gold Coast midfielder Karmichael Hunt escaped sanction for his contact with North Melbourne captain Andrew Swallow.
