Victoria have collapsed to be all out for 185, conceding first-innings points to NSW on day two of their Sheffield Shield clash at the MCG.
In reply to the NSW first-innings total of 208, the home side resumed on Friday on 1-22 and reached 4-124 at lunch before six wickets fell in the middle session.
Occasional medium-pacer Ben Rohrer took the last three wickets of the innings within the space of five balls in the 60th over to claim a career-best 4-13 off 4.5 overs as tea was taken.
Debutant quick Chris Tremain claimed 3-61 and Trent Copeland bowled tremendous line and length to finish with 2-38 off 22 overs.
Fourth-placed Victoria’s batting collapse is a further blow to their faint hopes of claiming a spot in next week’s Shield final, while the Blues are fifth and out of contention.
Cameron White top-scored for Victoria with 39 and Glenn Maxwell was unbeaten on 26.
Copeland dismissed Rob Quiney (nine) and nightwatchman Jon Holland (12) caught behind in successive overs.
Aaron Finch battled hard for his 29 runs before he was lbw to Tremain.
The 25-year-old Finch, who has been dropped from Australia’s Twenty20 squad for the upcoming West Indies tour, has scored only 215 runs at an average of 17.91 in Shield cricket this season.
White smashed six fours and one six in his two-hour knock of 39, his highest score of the Shield season.
White spooned a catch to gully off Scott Coyte’s bowling and Andrew McDonald (23) and Peter Handscomb (10) quickly followed.
Will Sheridan (eight), Peter Siddle (0) and Jayde Herrick (0) all fell to Rohrer in the 60th over as Victoria’s tail failed to wag.
