The George Ryder will be one of the features on a fantastic day of racing at Rosehill this Saturday. Obviously the Guineas is the standout race, however, the George Ryder will be the one that we’ll focus on here.

With the wet conditions surrounding Sydney, there is no doubt that Red Tracer is going to be a popular choice amongst punters. An outstanding performer on rain affected going, Red Tracer has won three from four on Slow tracks and five from six on Heavy surfaces. Her form leading into the Group One is fantastic with four wins from her last five starts. Her latest effort was a third to Appearance and Not Listenin’tome in the Canterbury Stakes a fortnight ago. Out to a more suitable distance for this week (1500 metres), Red Tracer is a member of the powerful Chris Waller stable and will begin from barrier 13. Looking for more reasons to load up on her? She’s won four and placed in another four from 10 starts at Rosehill!

The obvious threat is arguably Australia’s best miler – Boban. Boban, another member of the Waller establishment, found his best form last start when taking out the Chipping Norton in fine style. That was his third run back from a spell and followed two unplaced efforts. The first of those was when he resumed on February 8 and finished fifth to Appearance in the Expressway. A fortnight later, the same horse beat him when fourth in the Apollo. One of the significant changes for the four-year-old last start was regular jockey Glyn Schofield jumping back into the saddle. The pair seem to have a unique connection and the horse just didn’t look the same with Nash Rawiller holding the reins. One minor concern with Boban is his form on wet tracks because although he has a fine record on Dead surfaces, his only two starts on Slow going has seen him finish out of the placings. At $4.20, he will still represent good value to his supporters and all things being equal, he is the one to beat.
Sacred Falls is on the third line of betting and is yet another representative of Team Waller. The four-year-old has had one run back from a spell when fourth to Appearance in the Canterbury Stakes. It was certainly an eye-catching run and the wet conditions expected are certain to play into his hands. One of the worrying concerns is that he hasn’t won for almost a year and that was in the Doncaster Mile at Randwick. On the plus side, that was in Heavy conditions so there is every indication that he will appreciate the surface on Saturday. He has drawn barrier two and is likely to be given the perfect run by Zac Purton. Don’t underestimate his claims by any stretch of the imagination.
If you’re looking outside the Waller camp then maybe Eurozone could be the one for you .A consistent performer, he’s won four from nine and placed on two occasions. From the James and Bart Cummings yard, he’s won two from four at Rosehill and is one from one at the distance. Importantly, he’s three from three on Slow tracks. The cherry on top for his chances could be ‘The Pumper’ Jim Cassidy who will guide him from barrier one.
Looking outside this race and the Rosehill Guineas is certainly shaping up to be a competitive affair. Dissident is aiming to complete the Randwick – Rosehill Guineas double but one of the questions is how will he handle the extra 400 metres of this one? The 2000 metre journey is set to be far more suitable for a number of runners including Cox Plate winner Shamus Award and Teronado, who was an eye-catcher when fourth to Dissident a fortnight ago.
