Western Australia in trouble at the Gabba

Western Australia are in serious trouble at tea on day two of their day-night Sheffield Shield clash at the Gabba, having battled to 3-64 in reply to Queensland’s first innings score of 391.

Adam Voges (28 not out) and Ashton Turner (31 not out) are attempting to bat the Warriors out of trouble, steadying the ship after a shocking start to their innings.

A superb Peter Forrest (133) century was the highlight of Queensland’s first innings, before the Warriors, led by Jason Behrendorff (5-105) fought back to have the home side all out by lunch.

James Hopes opened the bowling for the Bulls after the break and extracted pace and movement from the pink ball, snaring Cameron Bancroft (0) and Marcus Harris (0) with consecutive deliveries in his second over.

Dangerman Marcus North (4) was then removed by Michael Neser thanks to a sharp catch by Chris Hartley behind the stumps.

Earlier, a 95-run partnership between Forrest and Neser (40) was the most fruitful of the day for Queensland, who began the morning session on 5-269.

Neser joined Forrest at the crease after Behrendorff had removed Hartley early, and the pair were able to comfortably steer the score past 300.

Forrest brought up his ninth first class century with a powerful six down the ground off the bowling of Ashton Agar.

A slash outside off stump eventually brought about Neser’s downfall when he nicked a Rimmington delivery to the keeper, bringing to an end a vibrant partnership.

Forrest’s impressive innings came to an end with one of the few loose shots he played, edging a cut to Adam Voges at first slip from the bowling of North.

The Queensland tail were able to offer little resistance late in the morning, adding just 11 more runs after the fall of Forrest.
