Young Dellavedova done at Australian Open

Local wildcard Matthew Dellavedova’s run at the Australian Open has been ended by Israel’s Yshai Oliel in the second round of the junior boys’ draw.

Dellavedova, a second cousin of Milwaukee Bucks’ Australian NBA star Matthew Dellavedova, was defeated by the No.4 seed 6-2 6-1 on Tuesday.

The Victorian came to prominence after he beat Ien Schouten of the Netherlands in three sets in the opening round of the Open.

Oliel will face Alexandre Rotsaert in the third round after the American defeated No.14 seed Dan Added of France in straight sets.

In other junior boys’ draw action on Tuesday, Australian wildcard Lucas Vuradin was knocked out by Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets – 7-6 (7-0) 6-1.

Queenslander Moerani Bouzige was beaten in straight sets by Portugese No.6 seed Duarte Vale.

French fifth seed Corentin Moutet beat Romania’s Vlad Andrei Dancu 6-1 6-3, while Czech Michael Vrbensky, Cypriot qualifier Menelaos Efstathiou and Japan’s Shinji Hazawa also progressed.

In the junior girls’ draw, top seed Rebeka Masarova of Switzerland accounted for China’s Xin Yu Wang 6-4 6-3 to set up a third-round encounter with American Carson Branstine, who beat local hope Baijing Lin.

British sixth seed Jodie Anna Burrage knocked out Australian wildcard Michaela Haet in straight sets and Japan’s Mai Hontama prevailed in straight sets over India’s Mihika Yadav.

Chinese No.3 seed Xiyu Wang was knocked out by En Shuo Liang of Chinese Taipei in three sets.

Russian qualifier Ekaterina Vishnevskaya continued her run with a 6-4 1-6 6-1 in over Chinese Taipei’s Pei Hsuan Chen, with Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk and Russia’s Sofia Lansere also progressing.
