Tomic takes out Kooyong Classic

Bernard Tomic has taken out the Kooyong Classic tennis tournament in Melbourne and capped off a perfect preparation into the Australian Open.

Tomic overcame the world number 8 ranked mens singles player Mardy Fish in 3 sets 6-4 3-6 7-5 to continue his blistering form.

The 19-year-old has joined an illustrious group of players to win the tournament including Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and Lleyton Hewitt.

Whilst the tournament is not an ATP even it has been highly regarded as a good form guide leading into the first Grand Slam of the year.

Tomic, ranked 37 in the world, will face another tough task in the first round of the Australian Open when he meets 22nd-seeded Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in a match that is likely to be on the centre stage at Rod Laver Arena.

Tomic is a $1.64 favourite to beat Verdasco on Sportingbet.
