Stosur storms into French Open third round

Samantha Stosur has stormed into the third round of the French Open with a crushing straight-sets win over local qualifier Amandine Hesse.

Mixing firepower with finesse, Stosur advanced in 6-0 6-1 in just 54 minutes on Wednesday to book a likely third-round showdown with defending champion and world No.1 Maria Sharapova.

But fellow Australian Daria Gavrilova’s campaign has ended in tears, with the 21-year-old retiring ill after dropping the first set 6-1 to 20th seed Sabine Lisicki.
