Former Wimbledon junior champion Ashleigh Barty’s tennis comeback has received a timely boost after receiving wildcards for next month’s Brisbane International and the Australian Open.
The 20-year-old returned to tennis in February after a 17-month break to take up cricket.
Barty played the 2015-16 Women’s Big Bash League season with Brisbane Heat.
However, her tennis return was hampered by a right arm injury in August.
The world No.274 said she was fit and firing again – having also received a Brisbane doubles wildcard with Casey Dellacqua.
Barty played in three grand slam doubles finals with Dellacqua in 2013.
“It’s been an up and down year, battled through a few injuries,” said Barty who also overcame an abdominal strain.
“It was going to take some time to get used to playing tennis again but now I am excited about being fit and healthy.”
Dellacqua, 31, is also expected to receive the final women’s singles main draw wildcard for Brisbane.
The Brisbane International starts on January 1.
