Preview:

Muguruza’s early form in 2014 has been one of the biggest stories of the season so far. The 20-year-old began by reaching the quarter-finals of the ASB Classic, where she was beaten 6-3, 6-3 by Venus Williams. This was a steady start, but didn’t prepare anyone for her title success in Hobart. Muguruza emerged from qualifying, as well as the main draw, without even coming close to dropping a set. Impressively, she recorded four bagels in Hobart, and won five sets 6-1.

This form has carried over to Melbourne. She defeated No. 24 seed Kaia Kanepi 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 in her opening match, and followed this up with a 6-3, 6-3 ousting of youngster Anna Schmiedlova. In round three she was able to turn heads again, coming back from a set down to eliminate tenth seed Caroline Wozniacki 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

Radwanska may have to bring her A-game in order to take down the rising star. The fifth seed is expected to win this contest but that doesn’t change the fact that her opponent is in top form. Aga should at least be feeling confident about her own tennis. She defeated Yulia Putintseva 6-0, 5-7, 6-2 in round one, and then got the better of Olga Govortsova, 6-0, 7-5. In round three she won her toughest match yet – a three set battle with Anastasia Pavyluchenkova – 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

Radwanska currently holds a 1-0 head to head record against Muguruza. The two players met in Miami in 2012, with the Pole clinching a confident 6-3, 6-2 win. Muguruza isn’t a teenager any more, and it seems that this time around the match will be much closer.
