Wigan still bottom after draw

Wigan Athletic remained bottom of the English Premier League on Saturday after a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

James McArthur put the home side ahead on 54 minutes but Paul Scharner equalised 11 minutes later to clinch a point.

The result lifted Wigan level on points with Wolves and QPR but still bottom on goal difference.

Wigan could have been 4-0 up at half-time but were made to pay for squandering a hatful of chances.

McArthur scrambled the ball home to break the deadlock but former Wigan man Scharner equalised for West Brom and the home side could not find a winner.

Swansea City moved into the top half of the table after a 3-0 win at Fulham in the day’s other game.

Loan signing Gylfi Sigurdsson scored the first two goals and Joe Allen grabbed the other to lift the Welsh side to eighth after a third straight win.

Manchester United will be out to extend their lead over Manchester City to four points by winning at Wolves on Sunday.
