Genia to stay with Reds for 3 more seasons

Wallabies halfback Will Genia has performed a backflip and re-signed with the Queensland Reds until the end of the 2015 Super Rugby season.

The Reds announced on Saturday night that Genia had agreed to join the Western Force next season, but on Monday Genia announced he was remaining in Brisbane on a new three-year deal.

“I always maintained a strong desire to stay in Queensland with the Reds, however I also received offers from both here in Australia and from overseas and I considered my options,” Genia said.

“(Coach) Ewen (McKenzie) asked my after the game on Friday whether I was going to be staying with the Reds and I told him I was going to join the Western Force.

“When I considered my options over the weekend, I realised it didn’t really sit well with me and my heart was in Queensland and that’s where I want to play my rugby.”

Negotiations between Genia and the Reds were dramatically reopened on Sunday afternoon after it was reported the Force had lured him west with a $600,000-per-season deal.
