All Blacks flanker Sam Cane and centre Malakai Fekitoa have been cited following New Zealand’s 21-9 victory over Ireland in Dublin.

The pair will face a hearing in front of an independent disciplinary committee in the next two days.

Cane was cited for allegedly tackling an opponent dangerously 11 minutes into the first half when he clashed heads with Irish midfielder Robbie Henshaw.

The Leinster centre left the field on a stretcher and faces further concussion checks, remaining in doubt ahead of Ireland’s final autumn clash with Australia on Saturday.

Cane suffered a high ankle sprain midway through the first half against Ireland, and has already been ruled out of the All Blacks final match of their northern tour against France in Paris next week.

Fekitoa, who scored two tries in the tense win, was also cited for a similar offence later in the match when he was yellow-carded for a high tackle on Irish winger Simon Zebo.

The performances of referee Jaco Peyper and television match official Jon Mason are expected to come under renewed scrutiny should either Fekitoa or Cane be handed further punishment.

Ireland boss Joe Schmidt refused to comment on Peyper’s performance in the wake of his side’s loss, but the Irish were clearly frustrated by a number of his rulings.

Ireland were stunned that Cane was merely penalised for his challenge on Henshaw.

“What? A penalty? But the player’s on the stretcher,” Ireland first five-eighth Johnny Sexton told Peyper on the field.
