Argentina insist revenge won’t be at the forefront of their thinking when they take on the Wallabies in Saturday night’s Rugby Championship clash in Perth.

The Pumas have lost 11 of their past 12 encounters against Australia.

But the one that hurts the most was last year’s semi-final showdown at the World Cup, which the Wallabies won 29-15.

Australia will start as warm favourites in Saturday’s re-match, but the Pumas are quietly confident of causing an upset following a series of strong displays.

Argentina beat South Africa 26-24 late last month, before giving the All Blacks a big scare in the first half on Saturday.

Veteran Pumas flanker Juan Manuel Leguizamon said the pain of last year’s World Cup defeat hadn’t prompted thoughts about revenge this week.

“I don’t think so. I don’t feel that way,” Leguizamon said.

“It was hard for us to accept it. But it’s in the past. Now we’re focused on the next game, and the future.

“It’s always amazing to play against the Wallabies. They are one of the best teams in the world, and it’s a privilege for us. We’ll try to enjoy it.”

Argentina trailed the All Blacks by just two points at the 50-minute mark last week, before losing 57-22.

Leguizamon was happy with the team’s work at the breakdown, as well as their attacking spirit.

But he said too many mistakes in defence cost them dearly.

Australia snapped a six-match losing streak with their 23-17 win over South Africa last week, and Leguizamon said Argentina will need to put in an 80-minute display if they are to come away with victory.
