These girls know what they are doing. The big hits are hard, the pace is real and the athleticism shown on the field is second to none. While many people may initially go for the sex appeal of the event they will surely return for the spectacle of the game as these fit, fast and athletic girls put on one hell of a show. While the LFL was founded in 2003, it had its Inaugural season in 2009. It originated from the Super Bowl half time as a pay per view event known as the ‘Lingerie Bowl’ and was broadcast opposite the Super Bowl half time show. There are now 12 teams in the USA Competition which is run over 20 weeks. These teams are split into the Eastern and Western Conference and culminates in the Lingerie Bowl. There is also an All-Fantasy game between the two conferences. With team names like Passion, Fantasy, Temptation, Sin, Charm and Bliss you can see why the sport has taken off. The LFL also has its own merchandise selling caps, jerseys, hoodies, balls, posters and just about everything else you could imagine. Much like the NFL teams, the LFL girls wear all the protective gear like shoulder pads, elbow pads, knee pads and helmets. The added bonus is the uniform of garters, bras and panties and thats what gets the crowds through the door. Make no mistake though, these girls are here to play; and they play hard! Injuries are not uncommon. Broken noses, broken ribs and dislocated shoulders. Most of the players come from competitve athletic backgrounds with many also having experience in other sports such as soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball. The LFL 2012 season is in Hiatus this year as it is going on an “All Fantasy Tour” to promote the Sport Globally. And one of those destinations in Australia. There will be two exhibition games between the Eastern and Western Conferences to be held in Brisbane on 2nd June and Sydney on 9th June. The Western Conference Captain is Aussie Girl Chloe Butler who plays for the Los Angeles Temptation, who have won the last 3 Lingerie Bowls. She has represented Australia in the 400 metre hurdles before injuries forced her out of the sport. She now plys her trade as a Wide Reciever and is one of the big names in the sport. The LFL will premier in Australia in 2013 with teams expected to be based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adeliade. There are also plans for an LFL Europe competition with teams in Barcelona, Frankfurt, Rhien, Manchester and Dublin. You can now see why they are calling it the Fastest growing Womens Sport in the World. The expansion will only make it bigger! Do yourself a favour and get out to one of these two great events as it is sure to be a night featuring some of the most athletic and beautiful women in Sport today!
