Watmough ready to retire to help Eels

Injured Parramatta forward Anthony Watmough says it’s a “no-brainer” for him to retire if it means the club get under the salary cap in time for next week’s NRL game against South Sydney.

Watmough’s troublesome knee shapes as the key for the besieged club, who this week were stripped of all 12 competition points accrued this season and fined $1 million for salary cap breaches.

The club have until next Friday’s match against the Rabbitohs to shave almost $600,000 from the cap before they will be allowed to compete for points.
