Three stars back for Warriors in NRL trial

Winger Manu Vatuvei, prop Russell Packer and fullback Kevin Locke are in line to make their first appearances of the year for the Warriors in their NRL trial against South Sydney on the NSW north coast.

The three have been named in a 22-man squad for the fixture at Coffs Harbour on Saturday night.

Packer and Locke, who were part of the Kiwis’ Four Nations campaign last year, sat out the 26-10 win against Gold Coast in Auckland last weekend.

Vatuvei missed that match as he was playing for the NRL All Stars, scoring the winning try against the Indigenous All Stars in Robina.

Among those not travelling across the Tasman are the experienced trio of lock Micheal Luck, prop Jacob Lillyman and centre Jerome Ropati.

Luck is recovering from shoulder surgery, while Lillyman is facing three months out after suffering an arm injury against the Titans.

Ropati is continuing his rehabilitation from knee surgery last year.

Warriors squad:

Lewis Brown, Glen Fisiiahi, Nathan Friend, Pita Godinet, Ben Henry, Konrad Hurrell, Sebastine Ikahihifo, Shaun Johnson, Kevin Locke, Sione Lousi, James Maloney, Simon Mannering (capt), Feleti Mateo, Ben Matulino, Russell Packer, Sam Rapira, Steve Rapira, Ukuma Ta’ai, Elijah Taylor, Carlos Tuimavave, Bill Tupou, Manu Vatuvei.
