Smith to speak out on McKinnon controversy

Cameron Smith will finally break his silence on Alex McKinnon’s scathing public criticism in an interview to Fox Sports.

The Queensland and Test skipper will do a one-on-one interview with Peter Sterling in response to the Nine Network’s explosive 60 Minutes program dedicated to McKinnon.

In the hour-long program run on Sunday night, paralysed ex-Newcastle forward McKinnon was upset over on-field comments Melbourne’s Smith made following the tackle that left him paralysed in March last year.

He said he believed Smith had implied the Knights forward had been somewhat to blame for the spinal injury he suffered in a three-man tackle.

An angry Smith turned down an offer by Nine this week to respond to McKinnon’s controversial remarks and maintained his vow not to speak to the network during Wednesday night’s State of Origin series decider, after it failed to grant him a right of reply on the initial program.

The interview is expected to air in part on Friday with the full version to be screened on Saturday.
