Brisbane halfback Ben Hunt admits getting dropped to the Queensland Cup was the lesson he needed to help rediscover his best NRL form.

The St George Illawarra-bound playmaker said it taught him to stay on his toes as he seeks to retain position in the Broncos’ halves while contending with strong challenges from the likes of Benji Marshall and Kodi Nikorima.

“Wayne put me back there, I guess it put a bit of a fire back in my belly and made me hungrier to get back and play some good footy again,” Hunt told reporters on Monday.
