Friend to get scans on injured arm

Queensland State of Origin aspirant Jake Friend faces a nervous wait on an arm injury in the Sydney Roosters’ Anzac Day win.

Friend was sent for scans by Roosters staff on Friday morning, after he appeared to hurt his biceps in a second-half tackle on St George Illawarra fullback Matt Dufty.

On return from a shoulder injury, he left the field shortly after the tackle but returned for the final 10 minutes.

Any injury would come at the worst possible time for Friend, as he looked set to push for his maiden Origin jersey ahead of the series opener on June 5.

The Roosters No.9 outshone fellow candidate Ben Hunt in Thursday’s win, kicking a 40-20 out of dummy-half in the lead up to one try and forcing an error to set up another.

He also pulled off a try-saving tackle on Hunt as the Dragons No.7 scooted out of dummy-half, forcing the ball free just as the Saints looked set to mount a comeback.

Hunt also picked up a shoulder injury in the match, but Dragons medical staff were confident it was only a bad cork and nothing structural.
