NSW star Josh Dugan says he wasn’t surprised to learn the same Twitter user who he entered a war of words with on social media last year has been revealed as the first person to post the Todd Carney “bubbling” photo online.

Mark Miller who goes as @MarkRaider1 on twitter, has now played a role in the two former Canberra players losing millions of dollars.

Brisbane sensationally withdrew a contract offer to Dugan last year after the fullback reacted to a stream of abuse on his social media feed by telling Miller on Twitter to “end himself”.

Now @MarkRaider1 has been traced as the man who is believed to have originally uploaded the Carney photo.

Within minutes the graphic image went viral and now Carney’s career is in tatters.

Dugan says the man – who he doesn’t know – had once again shown his true colours by exposing Carney.

“He’s just proved who he really is,” Dugan told AAP.

“It doesn’t surprise me but there’s always going to be people out there that try and bring people down. I’m not too worried about him.

“I’ve moved on and I’m better off now.”

Dugan said he feels for close friend Carney and hopes down the track another NRL club will give the talented five-eighth a lifeline.

However, at this stage the NRL are saying it would be highly unlikely they would register another contract for the 28-year-old.

Dugan said Carney’s plight was a lesson for he and others who have stepped out of line in the past – that the game is taking a tougher stance on player misbehaviour going forward.

Since moving to St George Illawarra Dugan has turned his life around, but says he can’t afford to fall back into bad habits.

“The game is only getting bigger so there’s going to be more spotlight. You always have to be aware of what can happen and doing the right things,” he said.

“Todd isn’t a bad guy. He’s just made a few bad choices and it’s the life we live. We’re always under a lot of scrutiny and that spotlight.

“He’s a great player and as long as his life’s on track he can be one of the better layers. He has that ability to do anything on the football field.”
