Croker up to second on Raiders try charts

Canberra legend Brett Mullins may have felt a touch aggrieved after watching his Raiders dispatch the Warriors 36-16 on Sunday.

Because while the Green Machine kept their 2017 NRL finals hopes alive, Jarrod Croker leapfrogged Mullins on the club’s all-time try-scoring charts.

“I’m sure ‘Mullo’ will be home in his garage, having a beer, watching this, bagging Jarrod,” Raiders coach Ricky Stuart joked..

“It’s a wonderful milestone.”

Club captain Croker bagged his 106th NRL try in the green jumper on Sunday, as his side cruised past an error-prone Warriors in Auckland.

He was also flawless from the kicking tee, hitting six from six.

The try takes him past ex-fullback Mullins, who scored 105 tries in his 11 seasons in the Australian capital, and just 14 tries away from toppling all-time leading scorer Jason Croker, who played in green for a whopping 16 seasons.

And at just 26 years old, he has plenty of time to do so.

The 210-game centre, for his part, was more interested in talking about his Raiders’ win – and staying in the finals hunt with just three games to go.

Currently 10th, the Canberrans must win their final matches against Penrith, Newcastle and minor premiers Melbourne to sneak into the top eight.

“Winning three in a row, it certainly builds your confidence – we can only worry about next week now and move forward,” Croker said.
